One, Last Blog before You Go...

I am training a girl, Nicole, at work. She is going to replace me because, as I recently stated, I am moving on to a new job. She has worked for United before but moved in with her parents in Texas because her husband was recently deployed to Iraq. She has decided to move back and try work again.

I got a chance to talk to her about his experiences. One thing that she said really stuck in my mind. Her husband, Brian, has told her about the children in Iraq. These kids love school and they think receiving pencils (those yellow No. 2's) are a treat. I can't tell you how many times I've complained about No. 2 pencils or have thrown them away because they were "too dull".



These children love learning. But don't have many resources. They don't have markers or cool Trapper Keepers (I know they're old-school). Regardless, they love going to school. Imagine if these kids got to spend one day in an average American school...they would never forget it.

His Squadron decided to repair the local school. They repaired the plumbing and fixed leaky roofs. Nicole, Brian's wife, asked her church to help gather school supplies for those children.

The media portrays the Middle East as this war-torn, impoverished country-which they are-that doesn't want our help. But according to Brian, they want help. Some families are torn apart or tortured because they choose to learn from the American soldiers. But they make that sacrifice, knowing that it may one day better their lives.

These are things Americans don't take into consideration. We don't see the need for aid in Iraq and Afghanistan. Even the most impoverished children in America have a chance at a decent education. We need to look beyond our peripherals and realize many people in this world are not as truly blessed as we are. Don't take this for granted.

News!

I received a very good phone call on Tuesday. It was Paul, who is one of the partners for the local Sonic corporation. He called to tell me I got the job I interviewed for over the last two weeks. The position is assistant to the Marketing Director. I was very excited, and still am, when he called.

I read a blog not too long ago about a student who was miserable with the job she had. Someone commented on the blog saying that if you're miserable in your job, it affects everything else in your life. I realized after reading that how miserable I was. I had been at my current job for almost 3 years. I have been working for a title company, a job I truly hate. It wasn't something that interested me at all. It was just something that made my parents happy. They wanted me to have a "real" job.

Needless to say, they are very pleased that I received this job and not some job at Best Buy, no offense to employees at Best Buy, those were their words.

After a lot of praying I fell upon this opportunity. I'm very excited. Although I'm not a Marketing major anymore, I think this will be a fun experience.

Spring Break

I really enjoyed my Spring Break. Maybe a little too much. I enjoyed not having the stresses of school bearing down on me. I didn't have to worry about tests or assignments due...well, not until today. Now I'm left catching up on all the assignments I put off.

I only have (hopefully, if everything goes well) 2 semesters of school left. I'm so ready to get out of school though. It seems like everything is a little less stressful when I'm not in school. I know it's important for me to finish school, but it's stressful.

It's especially hard when you don't know the goal you are trying to reach. I still don't have any idea of what I want to do with my major when I am done. I know I do not want to live here and to have a decent living I need at least a Bachelor's Degree. I want to get my Master's Degree but I don't know what towards.

I hope everyone had a good Spring Break. I know I did.

The News Today

It's hard not to be completely up-to-date on the economy these days. Seems like all of the articles are saying the same thing though. Consumers are scared to spend so they are saving money, while the government is spending too much money to bail everyone out.

Something I've learned in my economy class is the crowding-out effect. If Government debt is increasing, investments will decrease. What that means is that consumers will be less likely to investment in stocks, property, or anything dealing with spending money. This, in turn, creates a slump in the economy. It's not helping our GDP go up at all.

What I advise is for all of us to go and spend, take some risks, reasonably and stop being so scared by what the media says. I think we, as consumers, need to get out there and help our economy out. The economy will bounce back eventually. It may not be immediate with our new president, President Obama, in office. But the economy has been worse than this in the past. It has always gotten better.

So, girls buy that reasonably priced pair of shoes. Guys, buy that video game that you really want but are too scared to buy.

Writer's Block

How come, at certain times, you just can't think of anything to write. It's frustrating. It comes in waves. It can't be stopped. On my papers for English I dont know what to write. Essay questions for my test, I don't know how to answer. I wish there was a pill to take that made it easy to write. Or brilliant thoughts would flow out of your head.

I've been doing some reading lately, but it's all boring stuff. I'm a Business major, but I hate reading about Finance. It doesn't suit my fancy and it makes me want to go to sleep. Or shot myself in the head. If they made Finance literature into a story-Non-Fiction of course-then maybe I would read. I hate reading business books. Blah blah blah. Alright, I'm going on to Marketing. I'm really excited!

Lola

Here she is! My pretty puppy. Her name is Lola and she is now 10 weeks old. She is getting a little better at the potty training routine. We bought puppy pads and those are working pretty well. We took her to the vet on Tuesday. She didn't thoroughly enjoy being there, but she wasn't too bad.

When Brad, the vet, gave her a shot she didn't whimper at all. She's pretty tough. Plus, she got so many treats from the assistants, that we probably shouldn't have fed her that night. If you need to feed your dog, take them to the vet.



The vet said she weighs 15 pounds already! Our first dog was only 12 pounds when he was her age. Now he's 60 pounds. I'm going to spend my income on dog food, but it's worth it.

new pup

I got a new puppy last week. She's 8 weeks old and adorable. My boyfriend and I got our first dog together a year ago so we decided to get a playmate for him. Their names are Charlie and Lola. Both pups are mutts. Charlie is definetely part Lab and Lola is part Chow.

It's awesome to watch them play. Charlie's favorite game is tug-of-war and he and Lola love playing that game. We have a rope they play with, one will sit there and hold it while the other tugs on it. It's fun to watch them.

Since Lola is a puppy my boyfriend and I haven't been able to get a full nights sleep. She whines when she wants to play or go to the bathroom or is thirsty. But it's totally worth it when I see how much fun she and Charlie have together. I will post pictures of the new puppy soon.

College Education for Free

I came across an article on Yahoo.com today. There are 8 colleges in the U.S. that offer students a free, four-year college education. Granted a lot of then require that you work some hours on campus. Hey, I'm all for that. There is even a law school in California, UC Irvine School of Law. Here's a picture of the school.















There's a quaint school in Deep Springs, California. But it's two-year and only males are allowed to attend. So who wants to go? If my parents weren't helping pay for school, I'd be packing my bags now.

A diss to Britney

Britney Spears had her big hit "Hit me Baby One More Time" when I was a Freshmen in High School. So, yeah, I liked the song. The years went by and secretly I liked the songs Britney was still coming out with. Of course I told no one. Sadly I still like her songs. What can I say, I like to dance and she puts down the beats.

Okay, not really. I was on danceline in High School and we had to dance to her songs. I've never liked her. That is why I am proud to say, yes, the All-American Rejects for once get kudos from me. I especially liked the accoutrement of beer bottles as percussion. Well done AAR. This will be the first and only time I will give you two thumbs up.

What I Want to Be When I Grow Up...

...who knows. I surely don't. When I was younger, I wanted to be a lawyer. I wanted to go to LSU and study law. Then, I drove through Baton Rouge and changed my mind. I realized I never wanted to go to a school where I hated being in that city. I still hate driving through Baton Rouge, but I will go to visit friends or go to a game; however, I will never live in Baton Rouge.

Anyway, now I'm 23, have very little time in school, I'm studying business and I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, and I will not grow up until I know so. If you have any ideas as to what I should be, please throw them at me.
